Voltage: Fashion Amplified Presents Voltage Fashion Weekend 2008

Voltage: Fashion Amplified announces this year’s Voltage Fashion Weekend which will take place April 18-20, 2008. Voltage Fashion Weekend is a three day event that features trunk shows, workshops, fashion performances, happy hours and much more.

“As Voltage grows and evolves, so does Voltage Fashion Weekend. I am excited about the full series this year, as we have many new events. From a Portfolio Seminar, to designer open studios, to the spring collection runway show by Voltage alum, ra'mon-lawrence; our fashion community is becoming more established every year,” stated Anna Lee, Producer of Voltage Fashion Amplified.

excitement of the Voltage Fashion Amplified show on First Avenue, Fashion Weekend refocuses the spotlight on the greater fashion community here in the Twin Cities. The collection of events gives local, independent designers and boutiques a chance to shine and be seen in the world of fashion. To find the complete line-up of events visit, www.voltagefashionamplified.com/news.

Attitude City Spinning Between Sets at Voltage: Fashion Amplified 2008

Attitude City will be spinning between runway sets at Voltage: Fashion Amplified 2008.

The Attitude City duo consists of party rockers Jeff Dubois & Karl Frankowski, who have been throwing red-hot parties around the Twin Cities and beyond for over three years. They have also been involved with the underground fashion community, providing soundtracks for Voltage, Still In Style, Eclecticoiffeur, Twin Cities Fashion Weekend, and Elite Model Management.

With a keen musical edge honed by years of fanatical crate diving, Attitude City's vinyl-only DJ effort cuts through the tenuous trends and genre-humping of the modern club scene. For them, it's as simple as introducing the sexy and rare audio gems of bygone eras to handsome contemporary jams, getting them good and drunk, and letting them knock boots in your ears.

Voltage: Fashion Amplified 2007 CD and listening party

Date: March 21st, 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Voltage: Fashion Amplified Announces the Release of the 2007 Compilation CD and Transmission Listening Party

Minneapolis, MN, March 2007 Voltage: Fashion Amplified is excited to announce the release of the 2007 Voltage Compilation CD. Voltage has brought together one of the most diverse group of musical acts yet for this year's show, and some of their best songs are captured on this compilation. The CD will celebrate its official release at Transmission by Jake Rudh at Club Jaeger in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday, April 4th.

The 11-song compilation produced with the support of Noiseland Industries and Rare Form Mastering includes Dance Band's booty movin' grooves, Black Blondie's sounds of soul filled trip hop jazz, and the powerhouse indie rock sound of The Plastic Constellations. And that's only three of the six bands featured.

David De Young, who coordinated the CD this year had this to say: "The 2007 Voltage compilation is the third I've worked on, and even more than the previous discs, this one really kicks you in the pants. Not only does it rock harder, it also excels in diversity by including fun vocal-based sing-along's from the God Damn Doo Wop Band, a killer yet-to-be-released track from The Mood Swings, and some of my favorite songs from the Alarmists' first EP."

The CD can be purchased for ($10) at select Twin Cities independent music stores such as Roadrunner Records, Electric Fetus and Treehouse Records, or at Voltage on April 11th at First Avenue. Proceeds go to benefit Springboard for the Arts "Artist's Access To Healthcare Program."

The 2007 Voltage Compilation CD Track listing:

1. The Alarmists - "She Will Love Again (Hey Kid)"
2. The Plastic Constellations - "Phoenix and the Faultline"
3. The Mood Swings - "Finest Line"
4. Dance Band - "Pedal Power"
5. God Damn Doo Wop Band - "Talk Too Much"
6. The Alarmists - "New Romans"
7. The Plastic Constellations - "We Came To Play"
8. The Mood Swings - "Simple Things"
9. Dance Band - "Best Dance Alliance (featuring Best Friends Forever)"
10. God Damn Doo Wop Band - "Rooftops of Bangor"
11. Black Blondie - "Knife Fights and Xmas Lights"

No Voltage in 2006

For Immediate Release
February 3rd, 2006

Contact: Anna Lee -- annalee@ruby3.com

Anna Lee of Voltage: Fashion Amplified has the following announcement:

There will be no Voltage: Fashion Amplified in 2006.

A note from Ms. Lee.

On behalf of the Voltage: Fashion Amplified committee, I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in Voltage these past two years. I would like to thank those who have contributed time and resources to putting on these shows, and thank the sponsors and organizations who demonstrated their commitment to the community, especially, but not limited to First Avenue, Youth in Music, Noiseland Industries, Vision Models, Olive and Moxie. It's been inspiring to create an event like this and to watch it evolve.

Recently, I have come to the difficult decision not to produce a show in 2006.

In many ways, Voltage has become larger than the sum of its parts. It brings together so many elements of the local scene and so many talented people. Many outside the committee do not realize it takes six months to plan and just as long to recover. Putting on this show requires tremendous time commitments from those involved. I have built friendships and working relationships with the committee and have been inspired by them.

This is a thriving time in Minnesota fashion and music. It is our hope that with Voltage on the back burner for one year, other events will bubble up to take center stage this spring. Then Voltage will be back in 2007 with renewed energy and focus. Later this year look for announcements about Voltage '07.

Thank you.
Anna Lee

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone, the sponsors, designers, bands, models, attendees, First Ave staffers, Voltage committee members and volunteers who worked overtime to make Voltage 2005 even more unbelievably fabulous than last year!

We sold out First Avenue on a drizzly Wednesday night!

Here's a link to the first batch of photos to be posted (stills Chuck Olson of Blogumentary culled video.) (I'm sure there will be many more to come.) Chuck also interviewed Anna Lee for an online television program (or daily vlog, if you will) called Rocketboom. We'll post that links as soon as it's up.

Voltage is a City Pages Recommended Event

"No need for beer goggles; this is bound to be the prettiest crowd First Ave's seen in a while," says Diablo Cody in the City Pages A-Listing for Voltage 2005. Read the full article here.

"This will likely be the most exciting Wednesday night of 2005, so don't miss it," says mnspeak.com. More here. And here.

Voltage just one day away

We are honored that in support of Voltage, DJ Jake Rudh has decided to take a one night break from his regular Wednesday Transmission DJ nights at the Hexagon. We want to thank Jake again for hosting last Wednesday's awesome Voltage pre-party (see photo to the left by Dan Schultz) and say we're glad he'll have the night off to attend Voltage.

One last reminder to buy your tickets ahead of time. The show is expected to sell out, and we don't want anyone left outside in the rain.

Doors are at 7PM. Buy your tickets online here, or at First Avenue or any official First Avenue ticket outlets.

Read some fun facts about Voltage 05 here.

Voltage in Pulse

Thanks to everyone who came down to the Hexagon last night for the Voltage pre-party and helped make it the biggest Wednesday night the club had seen since the day before Thanksgiving!

Dan Schultz was on hand to shoot photos of the crowd and the rock star makeovers that were taking place on stage. Great music by DJ Jake Rudh and a never-ending slideshow of Voltage 2004 projected on the club wall truly made it a night to remember.

Rob Van Alstyne has a feature-length article (it's the cover story!) in Pulse Twin Cities this week about Voltage that includes an interview with Voltage producer Anna Lee and in depth looks at designers Rachel Carlson, Taissa Lada, Emily Johnson, Katy Gerdes and MacKenzie Labine in their own words and photos of their work.

You can find Pulse just about anywhere in the Twin Cities, or click here to read the article online.

Voltage is less than a week away, and the committee is burning the midnight oil to make sure the show goes off without a hitch. Remember to buy your tickets ahead of time if you can because they are already going fast, and the event is expected to be a total sellout.

Voltage in l'etoile

l'etoile editor in chief Beth Hammarlund and her staff have assembled a beautiful and professional arts publication loaded with great photographs. Pick up a copy at Store Nico (2431 Lyndale Ave South) and other fine Minneapolis boutiques.
